Consultation

Helping clients and families find the “right fit” is very important, as I know I will not be the best match for everyone who contacts me. I provide a free consultation to determine if my skills and approach meet your needs and are aligned with your own values and goals. This is the same offer I extend to all of my family members and friends: to help you find a therapist that will best support the growth and change you’re seeking, in a way that makes sense for you and your life. I know just how hard and confusing this process of finding a therapist can be, and I never want that to be a barrier keeping people from living their best, most fulfilling lives. If I, or you, do not think I am best able to support your progress, I am more than happy to access my network of local healing professionals to help guide you in your continued search.

Intake and Assesment

After consulting, if we believe working together would support your goals we will schedule and complete an initial assessment appointment. During this first session, we will explore and discuss your or your child’s strengths, difficulties, history, and goals for treatment. We’ll work together to make a plan for therapy that “feels right,” knowing it is flexible and we can adjust and change whatever we need or want as we go along. We will take care of the “business side of things” and review my practice policies, safety protocols, as well as your rights in the treatment setting.

Course Of Treatment

We will determine the appropriate frequency, type, and setting of treatment sessions to best meet your needs (weekly, biweekly; individual, family, group; outdoor, office, online). The length of treatment will be impacted by your/your child’s presenting concerns and goals, but I assure you that I am always working toward “putting myself out of a job.” This means – I will teach you strategies and will support the strengthening of your relationships and abilities to help you better address difficulties as they arise in life so that outside professional support is no longer needed. Participation in treatment with me is always voluntary, and you can choose to discontinue services with me at any time, for any reason.

Privacy / Confidentiality

Having worked in several small, rural communities in Western North Carolina over the past 13+ years, I am respectful of the especial need to provide and maintain the privacy of those I serve. Please rest assured that the information you and others share with me will remain confidential and private, including the fact that you or your child are coming to see me at all. Not only am I sensitive to this need because we live in a small town – I am also legally and professionally mandated to maintain your privacy, and I take this responsibility seriously. I am always glad to discuss any concerns or questions you have about what information I gather, how I store that information, and who I may or may not share it with.
