About Shannon
My Experience and Interests
I LOVE the work I do and am honored to provide my community members with quality, compassionate care in safe, healing spaces. I have assisted people, mostly children and teens, with improving their mental health and relationships since 2006 and began providing therapy in 2014 after I received my Master’s of Social Work (MSW) degree from Appalachian State. Prior to starting private practice, I worked in various settings, including: residential wilderness therapy, community-based therapy, therapeutic foster care, integrated healthcare, and outpatient mental health treatment centers – almost entirely in rural WNC communities.
I never ask others to try anything I’m not willing to do myself, so I am continuously seeking new ways to work through my own “stuff” and cultivate peace and joy in my life. I spend as much time as I can: hiking in the woods; being near the water; traveling; reading (sci-fi, poetry, and history are favorites); identifying and getting to know the plants and flowers around me; playing board games or running around outside with my dog, husband, and friends; cooking and baking; learning about and looking up at the stars and space; sitting in quiet spots; listening to music; and generally being inspired by the amazing creations of my fellow humans and nature. I’m also committed to volunteering my time in my community to improve the quality of life for all of us, knowing deeply that we truly “all live downstream” and all deserve health, love, and freedom from harm.

“Just like a sunbeam can't separate itself from the sun, and a wave can't separate itself from the ocean, we can't separate ourselves from one another. We are all part of a vast sea of love.”
